Insurance commissioner talks risk, financial soundness

Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty was in town Wednesday meeting with state Rep. Bill Galvano, R-Bradenton, and getting a progress report on the state of the local insurance marketplace.

"I think it's good for our office to get out into the district offices and to talk with the members in their districts," McCarty said. "It gives us an opportunity away from the environment of Tallahassee to talk about the local issues and what we can do in the upcoming session."

In an exclusive interview with the Bradenton Herald, McCarty responded to questions about the current property insurance environment.
We've just had a trio of narrow escapes with storms Fay, Gustav and Ike. And the hurricane season still has more than two months to go.
