Scam artists have been impersonating
utility-company employees in an effort to steal people's credit-card
information, utility officials warned Tuesday.
The scammers pretend to be company bill collectors, and call homes
and businesses, saying that power will be cut off in one day if a
payment isn't made.
Salt River Project and Arizona Public Service Co. officials
emphasized that they never ask for credit-card information in such a
circumstance. They advised customers who feel uncertain about such a
call to hang up and call the utility themselves to verify their account
information.
Officials advised targets of such a scam to contact police.
